About Me
I am an Associate Professor in the School Psychology Program and the Program Coordinator of the School Psychology Education Specialist (Ed.S) program. I am also a licensed psychologist in the state of Indiana and an endorsed Health Services Provider in Psychology. Prior to joining the IU School Psychology Program, I served as the Director of Research and Clinical Services at the Indiana Resource Center for Autism, at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community.
I have published numerous highly cited research manuscripts on the topic of autism spectrum disorders. According to the Google Scholar Database, my publications have been cited nearly 7,000 times and I was identified by Grapin, Kranzler, and Daley as one of the Top 25 most cited school psychology faculty in the country.
My work on social skill interventions for children on the autism spectrum bridges the gap between research and practice and has had a tremendous impact on the field of autism. I have provided invited lectures to researchers, practitioners, and consumers in over 45 states on the topic of social skills programming for students on the autism spectrum. I am also the author of the book, Building Social Relationships, which was named the Literary Work of the Year by the Autism Society of America, and winner of the National Indie Excellence Award in Education, and a 2024 Silver Medalist in the Independent Publishers (IP) Book Awards.
Since joining the faculty in 2007, I have taught 9 of the 14 core courses in the School Psychology program, and have been nominated for 4 Trustee Teaching Awards and the School of Education Graduate Studies Mentor Award 3 times. I have served as Director and/or Chair of 18 Dissertation Committees, and have served as advisory committee chair for 65 students in our Ph.D. and Ed.S. program. In addition, my former Social Skills Research Clinic (SSRC) served as an advanced practicum site for numerous students and served as an exemplar for numerous schools and clinics across the country, and I provided clinical training and supervision to 31 School Psychology students at the SSRC.
I am not accepting applications for doctoral students for the 2025-2026 academic year.
