For over 60 years, the University Search Team has provided assistance to Indiana School Boards in the screening and selection of superintendents across the state.
Each of the four state universities sends a faculty member to provide this service to the state: Ball State University, Indiana University, Indiana State University, and Purdue University. It is the teams' goal to understand community needs and, in turn, work with school boards to curate a pool of candidates that best reflects those needs, leading to the eventual hire and placement of a superintendent. The team’s commitment to finding the best superintendents and the IU School of Education’s participation in this team aligns with IU’s strategic plan and ISU’s foundational statements of service to our state as we work to strengthen Indiana through school leadership.
The University Search Team helps implement a search process that includes assessing the community, generating a candidate pool, and interviewing candidates, among other steps. This work is vital to public schools in Indiana. Most recently, the team has helped find superintendents for MSD Decatur, New Palestine Community Schools, Bartholomew County School Corporation, MSD Washington Township, Merrillville, and Southwest Allen County Schools.
