Ava Lentz is a senior at the IU School of Education majoring in counseling and student services. She recently shared a day in her life on Instagram, where she discussed what she’s involved in at IU, including the Dean’s Advisory Council.

Jillian Kinzie, Associate Director of the National Survey of Student Engagement, has been honored with an inaugural award recognizing Innovative Leadership for High-Impact Practices by the organizers of the Indiana University Assessment Institute.

A new program from the Global and International Engagement office gives faculty at the IU School of Education a chance to be study-abroad mentors. The project is called COOL Mentors after the four stages faculty go through as part of it: course development, overseas travel, overseas leadership, and mentorship.

Maryellen McClain has received the American Psychology Association Division 16’s Contributions to Mentorship Award. An associate professor of school psychology, McClain said mentorship is extremely important to her, and being recognized on the national level for something she cares so deeply about was particularly special.

Jackie Adams is a junior studying elementary education with a focus in literacy who shared a day in her life last week. From her field experience off campus to classes and club events, Jackie took viewers through her day—and even introduced her new puppy.

A four-year project to help improve math education culminated with a presentation at a national conference for two faculty members and five graduate students. The project included working with three local math teachers on what discussion-based mathematical practices can look like, how they can look different in different classrooms.

Four alumni of the IU School of Education have received the Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor for graduates of the school. The award, founded in 1977, recognizes alumni who have enhanced the reputation of the school by distinguishing themselves in their careers through significant professional and civic contributions to their community, state, and nation.

In a swift and comprehensive response to Indiana’s literacy goals, Indiana University has demonstrated its commitment to excellence in teacher preparation by aligning the literacy components of its key education programs with the state’s new Science of Reading requirements.
