Where did you complete your undergraduate studies?
Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL

Why did you choose to attend IU Bloomington?
I choose IU because the program produces some of the top professionals in my field. Additionally, I was able to participate in a recruitment program before making my final decision. My interaction with the current students and staff solidified my decision because I valued the community building that the students afforded me during the recruitment process.

What should prospective students know about your IU School of Education graduate program?
As a PhD student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) program, it is a top ranked program, and the faculty are doing cutting edge research in the field of Higher Education. The HESA network is tremendous and there are endless opportunities for students.  As a doctoral student, the HESA program gives you the opportunity to select a minor in an area which interests you to further build you professionally and academically.

What has been your favorite academic accomplishment since starting your IU Bloomington program?
I was able to get my first publication as a second semester graduate student in my program. I celebrate this because I came to this program with a science background and having to change my way of thinking was a challenge, however, being able to successfully write and publish my first paper was a feat I never thought was possible this early in the program.

What is the best thing about life in Bloomington?
Bloomington is a cultural hub in Indiana with a lot of opportunity for students to venture out to see different Broadway plays and other productions. Additionally, I appreciate the slow pace of the town and being able to see the many vibrant colors that emerge when the trees begin to change in the fall semester. It gives a calming effect.
