I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education within the Curriculum and Instruction department. Throughout my program, I have served as an Associate Instructor, providing instruction for undergraduate courses tailored to Elementary Education majors.

I obtained a bachelor's degree in statistics and a master's degree in Mathematics Education from South Korea. Prior to my doctoral studies at IU, I dedicated four years to teaching mathematics in both middle and high school settings in South Korea and Ethiopia. My decision to join the Ph.D. program at IU was motivated by my desire to delve deeper into research in mathematics education. I seek to address the challenges faced by students who lack the necessary prerequisite knowledge to engage with current curriculum content effectively. My research interests primarily focus on teaching and learning fractions in relation to units coordination across all educational levels. I have contributed to academic discourse by presenting my research at esteemed conferences such as the American Educational Research Association (AERA), Psychology of Mathematics Education – North America (PME-NA), and Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE). Additionally, my involvement in faculty-led research projects has provided me with invaluable insights and rewarding opportunities for growth. Bloomington is an ideal community for families like mine. My husband, 8-year-old son, and I have found it to be a wonderful place to call home. We actively engage in numerous programs offered by Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), public libraries, and the city itself. The welcoming atmosphere, particularly geared towards children, fosters a strong sense of belonging within the community. We truly appreciate being a part of such a supportive and family-friendly environment.
