About Me

I am a tenured Associate Professor in the Counseling and Counseling Psychology programs and, currently, the Director of Clinical Training for the Counseling Psychology program. My primary research interests include the process and outcome of psychotherapy, with an emphasis on measuring and understanding the impact of various cultural processes, such as cultural comfort and cultural humility, as well as structural competency, or the ability to recognize and address how social, economic, and political structures influence health and psychotherapy outcomes. I am also interested in college counseling and mental health. I use a variety of methods in my work, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods designs.

I am a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17 and 29).

I am an Associate Editor for the journal Psychotherapy.

I am the Domain Representative for the Public Interest and Social Justice Domain of APA Division 29 (Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy).

I am admitting doctoral students. Although my research covers various areas, I am most interested in admitting students who wish to study cultural processes and structural competency in psychotherapy, as these will be my primary research focus in the coming years, though not exclusively.

You are welcome to contact me via email if you are interested in working with me. I am happy to answer any questions you may have; however, I am not able to meet with potential candidates before they submit an application or are invited to interview.
