Jillian Kinzie, Associate Director of the National Survey of Student Engagement, has been honored with an inaugural award recognizing Innovative Leadership for High-Impact Practices by the organizers of the Indiana University Assessment Institute.
Kinzie said she was deeply honored to be acknowledged with the award, adding she wanted to give credit to the strong community of scholars who have committed to research on High-Impact Practices (HIPs) at AAC&U and now the Assessment Institute.
“It is gratifying to see educators’ interest in delivering HIPs to more students and assuring the practices are educationally beneficial. I see this award as shining a spotlight on the importance of studying our practice to assure it’s as effective as it can be and that experiences are inclusive and relevant to today’s learners,” Kinzie said.
Amy Cicchino, Associate Director, Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, presented the award to Kinzie and said in her remarks at the ceremony “From someone who comes to this conference from a HIPs in the States connection, we appreciate Jillian’s work because it is bold and innovative, always finding ‘new directions.’ We admire that her work is deeply connected to enhancing students’ learning experiences, ensuring we are ‘delivering on the promises’ of HIPs and higher education.”
Kinzie recently helped author a new online issue of Assessment Update v. 36#5. The articles in this special issue make the case with emerging assessment evidence for expanding beyond the 11 named High-Impact Practices (HIPs). Kinzie wrote the Introduction and the Summary article titled: "And the HIPs Just Keep Comin'".
